Tutoring

Empowered Kidz Australia supports primary school students who are struggling with school subjects.

We offer Primary Tutoring, Remedial Tutoring, and Intensive Literacy Tutoring. We provide Placement Tests, Learning Disability Screenings, and a comprehensive Diagnostic Assessment to determine their needs, identify areas where they are struggling, and suggest areas where they can be extended.

We offer individualised tutoring plans to ensure regular progress that is not achieved with standard tutoring practices. We also offer NAPLAN tutoring, Home Education Consultations, and group tutoring for Remedial Maths and Dyscalculia!

Primary Tutoring

We specialise in Literacy and Numeracy but can assist with any other subject that your child needs help with. An assessment will be completed to determine your child's academic level and where they need help or extension.

Tutoring fees are $80.00 per 45-minute session or $50 per group session.

Remedial or Extension Tutoring

Empowered Kidz is able to assist Primary school students who need remedial or extension tutoring in English or Maths. We will advise whether a placement test or a full diagnostic assessment is required. This will help us determine where your child is struggling or needing an extension. We will then create a tutoring plan that is unique for your child.

The cost is $80 for 45 minutes. (1:1)

Intensive literacy Intervention Program for Dyslexia students

Our experienced and supportive tutors use research-based structured literacy in a 1:1 session using the Orton-Gillingham approach for dyslexia intervention.

We also have group sessions using the Orton-Gillingham approach for dyslexia intervention (no more than 4 students per group)

We make use of the Hearbuilder online program for help with phonological awareness, sequencing, following instructions, and memory.

Fees are $85 for 1:1 or $50 per group session (twice per week)

What is Orton-Gillingham?

The Orton-Gillingham approach has been in use since the 1930s and was developed by neurologist Dr Samuel T. Orton and educator, psychologist Anna Gillingham. This theory combines multi-sensory techniques along with the structure of the English language. Multi-sensory education incorporates auditory, kinesthetic, tactile, and visual learning pathways. Items taught include phoneme/grapheme relationship, phonemic awareness, syllable types, affixes, roots, cutting patterns, non-phonetic sight words, and common spelling rules. This approach is endorsed by the International Dyslexia Association and is the most commonly used intervention for dyslexia.

Placement Test

A placement test is a simple tool with which we test your child in their current year only, based on the educational skills they should have in that year. In this way, it determines what they cannot do.

It is a quick starting point, but it does not give specific educational targets as a full diagnostic assessment would. For example, a placement test will show that a student is below average in reading, writing, and spelling, but not that the problem is a lack of phonological skill, namely, rhyming.

A placement test takes approximately an hour.

Priced at $80.00 per hour.

Learning Disability Screening

At Empowered Kidz Australia, we use a combination of testing and screeners to help us pinpoint the areas of weakness. Based on these assessments, we provide parents with specific information about the likely root causes of their children's educational difficulty and create an intervention plan to target those areas.

We screen for Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, and Dysgraphia.

The cost of all three screenings and a report is $250.

Diagnostic Assessment

A diagnostic assessment extensively evaluates your child's ability in either literacy or numeracy.

It will identify the gaps in their learning from Kindy to the current year level. It gives a clear map of what skills need to be targeted in tutoring to fill those gaps. Gaps occur for various reasons. If your child misses school, a teacher moves on before your child has mastered the topic, which creates holes in their learning. These gaps widen as new content is given to your child to learn.

A full diagnostic allows us to pinpoint these gaps.

This assessment is at least 3 hours long, with added marking and a comprehensive report detailing your child's educational needs.

Priced at $295

Home Education Consultation

We can build a personalised curriculum for your child or assist with a tutoring plan or our tutoring services to put your child on the right track if you use a standardised curriculum.

We can assess your child with an educational diagnostic to discover the root of their difficulties, and we also provide learning disability screenings where necessary.

These include written reports and feedback appointments that will help you optimise your child's education plan. We assist with programming and moderator reports.

NAPLAN Tutoring

We assist with NAPLAN preparation for Year 3 and 5 students. We offer group tutoring and one-on-one tutoring by request. It is important to highlight that NAPLAN preparation is very different from regular tutoring. The test assesses very specific outcomes, and some questions can be challenging.

Fees are $50.00 per hour for group tutoring.

Remedial Maths Group

Our Maths Group offers your child support, opportunities for peer interaction, and shared learning. By making maths enjoyable and less challenging, working in groups in a fun, hands-on way, and using manipulatives to help students better understand abstract concepts, your child will succeed.

When maths is easier to learn, students excel.

Cost is $50 for a group session.

Dyscalculia Group

Is your child struggling with Maths due to Dyscalculia?

This group offers your child support, opportunities for peer interaction, and shared learning designed for students with Dyscalculia. Each group is limited to 4 students to ensure individual attention. We utilize best-practice maths programs for Dyscalculia and employ concrete Maths products to help students process, as students with dyscalculia often struggle with abstract thinking.

Some indicators of Dyscalculia:

  • Not knowing which of the two numbers is larger.

  • Poor fluency in the identification of numbers.

  • Difficulty with mental calculations

  • Problems with working memory

1:1 Specialised Tutoring $85 per hour.

Group Tutoring (limited to 4) $50 per hour

We look forward to helping your child thrive!
