A little more about Empowered Kidz Australia and the team

I founded Empowered Kidz Australia because I saw a need and an opportunity for children to learn mindfulness, resilience, and emotional regulation. To improve their confidence, manage their anxiety, and implement problem-solving skills. Being semi-rural, there were also limited opportunities for children who were neurodivergent or had learning difficulties, and as a result, many in our community were struggling.

As a mother with an educational background, I have seen firsthand that children often need to be taught important skills to help them form lasting friendships, build their confidence and resilience, and manage everyday stress. I have experienced the benefits of teaching children mindfulness, meditation, and yoga to assist them with emotional regulation, anxiety, and self-esteem.

Having been approached by many to assist their children with Literacy, Mathematics, and other

educational shortfalls, and being passionate about helping children thrive, I successfully added individualised, effective tutoring services to assist the many children who fall through the cracks. Children who fail to grasp a concept at school before the teacher moves on, and in time get further and further behind. I also assist the children who need extensions to thrive. As my business grew, I received training in teaching students with learning difficulties and in assessing them. I am also doing a Master’s in Autism and Neurodivergent Studies.

Most tutoring is with neurodivergent individuals and/or children with learning difficulties.

We stay at the forefront of new developments and research in this field, so that we can use best practices

to help these students.

Having children with a diagnosis of Autism and ADHD (amongst others), I have many years of experience dealing with the bureaucracy of the NDIS and have extensive knowledge of what is required to receive the correct services successfully. Having a non-verbal child with high needs means I am well-versed in advocating for her. Having assisted many others with the process and realising that many parents and caregivers need help with the process, support coordination appointments are available. I am a qualified support coordinator, have taken both the mandatory and optional training, and constantly stay at the forefront of new developments to best serve the community.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Police Science (Criminology) from the University of South Africa, with a minor in Psychology. I also hold a Bachelor of Educational Studies (in Special Needs Education) from Curtin University
and am currently studying for a master’s in Autism and Neurodivergent Studies.

I also have certification in Orton-Gillingham programming, Dyscalculia and Dysgraphia tutoring, and kids' yoga. And have many years of hands-on experience working with children.

Empowered Kidz Australia has grown by leaps and bounds and is currently expanding all services due to overwhelming demand. I can assure you that I am committed to hiring qualified, child-centred individuals who align with the ideals I have envisioned for the business, to ensure that your children get only the best care, attention, and assistance.

I’m Jade Burrows. I was born in England and spent most of my childhood there before moving to Australia with my family at the age of 14. I have two lively boys, aged 5 and 4. My eldest has an Autism/ADHD diagnosis, and both boys have been accessing NDIS for many years.

Before having my oldest child, I worked as a Special Needs Education Assistant for 10 years across several schools. I returned to relief work before having my second child in late 2021. Since then, I have been a Tutor at Empowered Kidz Australia, supporting children in both literacy and numeracy, in groups and one-on-one. This year, I also took on the role of Support Coordinator, helping other parents understand NDIS and manage their children's plans.

My passion lies in helping children reach their full potential. In my younger years, I received support at school to overcome challenges, especially with my dyslexia, which helped me understand the impact of learning difficulties on children. As an adult, I've received support in managing and understanding my own children's NDIS plans, which has led me to develop a passion for supporting others in accessing NDIS.

I love empowering children to work through challenging concepts until they have that moment of understanding. I also love empowering people to advocate for themselves or their children in various situations, and sharing my knowledge and experience to help other parents in similar circumstances.

I look forward to seeing what the future brings here at Empowered Kidz Australia.

I'm Melanie Robertson. I was born in South Australia, then moved to Alice Springs, Northern Territory, where I attended school and worked in Tourism and Hospitality. At twenty-four, I moved to WA to seek a brighter future for our daughter. Sadly, we lost our little angel to cancer in 2006 after a brave two-year battle.

Witnessing life in a children's cancer ward sparked my passion to support kids facing uncontrollable challenges. I re-partnered years later, and we had a child, now aged fifteen, who has a dual ADHD and Autism diagnosis. I have been working in the Community Services Sector for almost 10 years with Avivo, including 8 years as a Support Worker, and I have spent the past 4 years working in part-time Administration.

For the past 7 years, I have self-managed my son's NDIS plan, consistently seeking suitable services and building strong relationships with experts who have offered continual age-appropriate guidance. I believe that my past life experience and knowledge of the industry have empowered me to now reach out and help other families to understand and implement their children’s NDIS plans, ensuring greater independence and quality of life.
